Hello there! I’m a previous Texas Democratic Party staffer and campaign strategist. I used to work on electoral and grassroots campaigns, mostly in the RGV, for about 5 years until I decided that I needed a career not so rife with ethical conundrum. I now host this site in order to let my thoughts be heard without fear of retaliation. For that specific reason, I’d like to go by the pseudonym Magpie.

I am a first-generation Mexican-American and identify as a Chicana. I’m a Rio Grande local from the upper RGV. My ancestors on both sides of my family were farmworkers who worked hard to make sure that I could have the chance to go to college and work for a future that is fulfilling.

I have been trained for 4 years as an anthropologist, and my reporting includes mostly participant-observation; anthropology is a colonial field, and as an anti-racist, I found myself more aligned with the values that the profession of social work offers, especially when it comes to community agency-evaluations, and do not identify myself much as an anthropologist. I am working on getting my Bachelors of Social Work, and for now would like to use this site as an arena for voicing dissent & controversial opinions in a region where so little of it is published and repression is common. Hola, frui un miembro de el personal del partido Democrata de Texas y estratega de campañas. Solia tabajar en campañas electorales y en el grassroots, principalmente en el Valle de el Rio Grande. Trabaje por unos 5 años hasta que decidi que necesitaba una ocupacion no tan llena de enigmas eticos. Ahora uso este sitio para decir lo que creo y pienso sin temor a represalias. Por esta razon me gusta usar el seudonimo de Magpie.

Soy Mexico-Americana de primera generacion y me identifico como Chicana. Soy una nativa del Upper RGV. Mis antepasados en ambos lados de mi familia eran trabajadores agricolas que trabajaron duro para asegurarse de que puderia tener la oportunidad de ir a la universidad y trabajar por un futuro que sea satisfactorio.

Me he formado durante 4 años como antropologa, y mis reportajes incluyen principalmente observacion participante; la antropologia es un campo colonial, y como antirracista, me encontre mas alineada con los valores que ofrece la profesion del trabajo social, y no me identifico mucho con el estudio de antropologia. Estoy trabajando para obtener mi licenciatura en trabajo social, y por ahora me gustaria usar este sitio como un escenario para expresar disidencia y opiniones controvertidas, en un region donde se publica controvertdias poco y la represion es comun.
